Company Mission
GeoNet Communications Group, Inc. is a premier full service Information and
Communication Technology (“IT”) Service Provider. GeoNet was first registered in
2000 in the state of Delaware, USA as - GeoNet Communications, Inc but waited
for four years to commence International Telephony services. In year 2004,
GeoNet Communications, Inc. changed its name to GeoNet Communications Group,
Inc. (here after referred to us GeoNet USA). At the same time, year 2000, GeoNet
USA subsidiary in Kenya, GeoNet Communications Limited (hereafter referred to as
GeoNet Kenya) was registered in Kenya
In March of 2005, GeoNet Kenya was licensed by the Communications Commission of
Kenya (CCK) to provide the following services;
1) Internet Backbone and Gateway Service- linking Kenya to global internet
backbone provider,
2) Public Data Network Operator- to build telecommunications infrastructure in
Kenya,
3) Was already an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
In the past Telecommunication Networks were considered primarily a vehicle for
voice; with data being incidental, but the growth of the Internet and new data
based applications have changed the voice/data split. First to be overlaid on
voice networks was fax, then e-mail and lastly Web moved users from voice
communication to more visual communication.
The Internet then spawned new, intensive e-commerce applications. Even
traditional applications such as music and video are now being converted into an
Internet-friendly form and getting transmitted across telecom networks as a
series of data packets. A service is regarded as converged, when voice, faxes,
video and email are unified into data packets.
The standard platform of convergence is the internet protocol (IP), and the
converged media is regarded as IP traffic. Some refer to IP traffic as unified
messaging, and the Internet system that makes this service possible is called
Unified Messaging System (UMS). Packet transport protocols such as Multiprotocol
Label Switching (MPLS) that integrates Layer 2 information about network links
(bandwidth, latency, utilization) into Layer 3 (IP), simplify and improve
IP-packet exchange. MPLS gives network operators immense flexibility, thus
facilitating multiservice offering on the same network platform. Multiple
services on IP platforms will enable GeoNet to go beyond being an Internet
Telephony Service Provider (ITSP) to become a fully fledged IP Multimedia
Service (IMS) Provider.
From a Kenyan perspective, this translates to increased services that GeoNet
will bring to the Kenyan consumer Broadband Infrastructure, Voice over Internet
Protocol (VoIP) and Managed e-Commerce Application and Data Services. Will make
Kenya more open to international markets, great jobs, help alleviate poverty and
improve quality of life.
GeoNet’s Converged (bundled) networks will offer Kenyans cheaper communication.
In conjunction with our strategic broadband network partners across the globe,
GeoNet is able to move IP traffic from point to point cheaply and more reliably.
Therefore, as an ITSP, GeoNet aims at being able to provide the Kenyan telephony
consumer, both residential and corporate, with high Quality of Service (QoS),
Service Level Agreements (SLAs) at affordable rates.
By focusing on its strengths, its world wide strategic partners and customers,
and the underlying values they need, it is envisaged that Geo-Net Kenya will
increase its revenue to more than US $10 million in three years.
